Zoom and Pan

Once a query has been completed and data has been presented in the Map Window, you may wish to study a specific area in more detail.  There are three icons located on the Toolbar that allow the manipulation of the Map Window.

Zoom in

The zoom in icon  is used by clicking the icon in the Toolbar and then by placing the mouse near the area in which you wish to inspect.  Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse to create a box around your chosen area. Releasing the mouse button will execute the command and the designated area will be zoomed in on. This process can be repeated to increase the zoom capability.

Note: If you accidentally release the left button before you have created a box then you may still move the mouse to create a box.  Left-click again once you have selected the desired area.

Zoom out

Once an area has been zoomed in to you have the ability to zoom out by a factor of two each time you click on the zoom out icon  on the Toolbar.  This process can be performed many times until you reach the full map extent.

Zoom to current layer

You may find that once you have retrieved a layer using the Query Wizard you cannot see it. This may be because you are zoomed into an area outside the extent of your new layer. Click on the zoom to current layer icon and the map view will move to the extent of the currently selected map layer.

Zoom to default

If you wish to zoom out to the full extent of the current map projection then click on the zoom to default icon .

Pan

The pan icon  is used once an area has been zoomed in to and is invoked by pressing the pan icon whereupon the mouse cursor changes to a .  The user now has the ability to move around the map whilst retaining the current level of zoom.   Left-click on the map to specify a new centre position.  To cancel this process just click the pan icon again and the mouse cursor will return to normal. 

Note: To zoom and pan from the Menu Bar, choose View and then pick a suitable option.
