Hi all,

I know just how enthusiastic Herts are about our wonderful sport of SQUASH. I understand people's ambitions to be the best player they can, as I still am, and was when I was a junior. This is why I am sure people will be excited about the HALF TERM SQUASH WORKSHOP I have arranged at Potters Bar on 27th OCTOBER 2009.

The workshop will be of the highest calibre with the new regional coach and ex-England coach, PAUL CARTER, and myself taking most of the racket work and video analysis activities whilst GARY NESBIT, a very experienced Personal Trainer and accomplished player himself providing his expertise on squash specific body workouts and conditioning. (You have to be in good physical shape as well as having good racket and movement skills to play this very demanding game !)

It should be very educational and give participants with:

  • a valuable insight into where their swing and movement can be improved using video analysis on court.
  • an understanding of the importance of doing the correct training and eating well.
  • an appreciation of what is involved in being a professional squash player.

Please do not delay in securing your place and benefit from the type of coaching that helped the likes of Peter Nicol, Nick Matthew and with the rest of the England team achieve their success, as I suspect it will be oversubscribed.

Hi All,

Well, yet again we are here right before the beginning of the winter season. Yet again you ask yourself the question of Do I, don't I. Please, please do!

I have a couple of announcements to make that the committee would like to share with you.

AGM / Herts Closed

Firstly, the AGM for Herts Squash will this year be held on the weekend of the Herts Closed, just before the final match. As you are no doubt aware it is mandatory for at least one representative from your club be there and this year will be no exception, with any luck proceeding will be quick and painless due to people wanting to watch some great squash.

The exact location for the AGM is still being finalised, but provisionally I would like to share with you that is it likely to be held at Berkhampstead. Ah I hear you say – How will we all get from Broxbourne to Berko so that we can watch the squash? Well the answer to that as you may have worked out is that the Herts Closed is also provisionally booked in to be played at Berko this coming year, the date is to be finalised, but should be 22nd, 23rd, 24th January 2010.

Summer 2009 season

Thank you to all of the teams that entered the summer season, I hope you have had some good matches. I see from the leagues that there is an improvement in keeping the scores up to date from the previous season, which is great. I would like to tell all the captains in Div 1 that you have a way to go to catch the other leagues up in terms of keeping your scores up to date, which I am sure you will endeavour to do.

I would like to thank Mike Byrne for all his efforts in ensuring that the Ninenil system has accurate scores, without Mike's assistance this year, things would most definitely have not been as smooth.

There are still some outstanding payments from the summer season, attached is a copy of this mail that includes a list of all the teams that played in the summer, as you can se there are a few clubs that have not paid their subs.

As with all associations a major part of their income is generated from subscriptions, if these are not paid, then there is no way that they can operate, and Squash is no different.

All the clubs that have not paid by the beginning of the winter season will not be eligible to enter teams into the winter season!

Winter Season 2009 - 2010

I have managed to either place messages on people's voice mail or spoken to most of the clubs with regards to the winter season and hopefully have not missed anyone. If I have, then I apologise.

Hopefully by now you are getting your teams in place ready to make a commitment to enter for the winter season. Please can you confirm to hertssquash@btinternet.com, what teams you wish to have in the winter season by Sunday 20th.

Depending upon numbers it is likely that there will only be 4 divisions this year and the committee need to make a decision on this, a meeting is already set for that Sunday, so we must have all of your entries in by then. Provided that we can get all entries by the 20th Sep then the winter leagues will be start on the week of the 5th October, with the first match being Tuesday 6th October, if at all possible it would be good if you could all book out your courts for the first week and then cancel them if you are not playing at home on the first week.

By committee decision the scoring throughout the leagues will be PAR 15.

A new rule is being introduced by the Committee decision with regards to the ninenil scoring system. The rules are currently that the home team place their results onto the leagues and the away team confirm that they are accurate.

To aid in keeping the scores as up to date as possible it has been decided that a 2 week period be given to either the home or away team that has not entered their results before the score is deemed to be accurate and can be approved. In practice this means that if either the home team or the away team place their results on system after the match and nothing is confirmed for 2 weeks from the opposing team then the Herts Secretary will approve the score and this score will stand.

Registration of players

Last season I remember writing to you all to explain our need for all of the clubs and their players to be affiliated to England Squash as this affects Herts Squash directly in a financial capacity.

It is MANDATORY that this is the case and it is YOUR responsibility to do ensure this. Herts as a group of squash clubs CANNOT function without this and will DEDUCT points or potentially EXCLUDE clubs found to be abusing the system. NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!

The club/captain will need to make sure that all their players are registered with England Squash and that they have a record of their membership numbers, because the committee will want proof of registration of team players from every club.

Well, I think that is quite enough from me for the moment and I look forward to hearing from you with regards to your teams for the winter.

If you wish to discuss anything with me, please do contact me sooner rather than later either via mail at Philip_Jenkins@btinternet.com or on my mobile, 07866607277

All the best for now,
Phil Jenkins
